Event
Sherman Alexie at Town Hall Seattle
SHERMAN ALEXIE Monday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall Seattle.
The Elliott Bay Book Company is delighted to present this much-anticipated evening with Sherman Alexie. Two amazing books occasion the occasion: the paperback of his 2007 National Book Award-winning novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Little, Brown) and the publication of Face (Hanging Loose), his first book of poems in nine years. Face is rich and loaded the poems, laced with prose passages, it will surprise. Many, if not most of the sequences, are written in forms from complex syllable schemes to rhymes. They read well on the page and should be terrific given voice from the stage. Maybe this will be a candidate for one of those national book awards. One of those is already in the house: with The Absolutely True Diary. That is the book that keeps on being given, read by readers of all ages, the heartbreaking, heart-making story of Juniors coming of age, leaving his Spokane reservation to attend the white high school in the bigger town next door. As Neil Gaiman presciently noted before this winning book was published, Excellent in every way, poignant and really funny and heartwarming and honest and wise and smart We have no doubt that in a year or so it will both be winning awards and being banned. Amen. $5 tickets are available at Elliott Bay or via www.brownpapertickets.com (also 1.800.838.3006). Town Hall Seattle is located at 1119 Eighth Avenue (at Seneca).
