A poetry slam is a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience. This poetry slam is organized by Ms. Wise and Jacob Winterstein.
Poetry slams feature the best of poetry, theater, hip-hop, story telling, comedy and drama. The content and styles are as diverse as the people of our great city.
Top finishers in the grand slam will represent The Pigeon and Philadelphia at the National Poetry Slam!
Come perform, watch or judge.
**For our April Slam Priority will be given to poets who have earned qualifying points.
Poets wishing to compete should arrive at 8:30 to put their names in the hat. All poets who put their name in the hat pay half price. At 9:00 poets names will be picked out of the hat. **

The Pigeon* is excited to announce that this month's feature and workshop** leader:
SARAH KAY
is a poet from New York City who has been performing her spoken word poetry since she was fourteen years old. She was a featured poet on HBO's "Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry Jam" in 2006, and that year she was also the youngest poet to compete in the National Poetry Slam.
Since then, Sarah has shared her poetry on six of the seven continents, and is currently yearning for Antarctica.
She is perhaps best known for her talk at the 2011 TED conference, which garnered two standing ovations and has been seen over three million times online.
*The Pigeon is an audacious bird that is everywhere. ** The Pigeon Presents: The Nest. A Poetry Workshop. Starts at 7:30 sharp and is free with admission into the slam.
