Center for Contemporary Opera presents DINNER AND DELUSION by Michael Sahl and Nancy Manocherian
The Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO), dedicated to the development and production of new opera and music-theater, in association with the cell, presents a fully stage production and the U.S. premiere of Dinner and Delusion, music by Michael Sahl and libretto by Nancy Manocherian for four performances Thursday-Saturday, April 9-11 at 8pm and Sunday April 12, 3pm at the cell, 338 West 23 Street, New York. Dinner and Delusion begins and ends with Passover Seders that take place sixty years apart. On Passover, 1949, a 15-year-old boy misbehaves with his Aunt Rosie. When he is locked in a closet for his misdeeds, he meets the prophet Elijah, who tells him that Rosie is the Shekkinah, the apparition of God as a female body, as known as the Eternal Feminine. Manocherian and Sahl collaborated on the book and Sahl set her lyrics with a pastiche of romanticism and jazz borrowings from world music and traditional Jewish music.
