A Secret Stories Soiree
A modern interpretation of a dark classic, "The Secret Below" layers immersive theatre with nouveau cirque, bringing together aerial acrobatics, dance, drama, and live music to tell a story of love and sacrifice, tragedy, and magic.
Using inter dimensional movement set against minimal backdrops, "The Secret Below" is an artful adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's "Little Mermaid", telling the tale of a tail beloved by many and fully known to few. In the true tradition of the story, our heroine dreams of a human life a fantasy that ultimately costs her a terrible price: her life.
Gracefully reconstructed into a series of abstracted scenes, "The Secret Below" shifts the audience at every intermission, changing the spectator perspective by rearranging around the ocean, the land, and the sky.
Subtle but elegant costumes highlight the complex choreography, while an ever-changing set keeps the audience engaged and the experience immersive. Aerialists spin and soar directly above the heads of the crowd, while the scene shifts with an intricate arrangement of projection and theatrical lighting surrounded by a classical soundtrack and accompanied by live music.
In the tradition of Secret Stories Soirees, "The Secret Below" will offer an elegant evening of entertainment featuring cutting-edge work and world-class talent alongside a unique social environment, thought-provoking content, and quality refreshment.
Featuring students of UrbanCircusNYC, "The Secret Below" is the first full-length show bringing together the adult Intensive students of Aeon Aerial Arts Academy with the children of Katana Flight School, building on our tradition of education by emphasizing the balance between unlimited opportunity and honorable accountability built through mentorship, growth, and the circus community.
Enter the world below, where stories told with bodies explore the light within the dark, the colors of time, and the magic of movement to change human perceptions of the possible.
