TAPE HISS
On Friday, March 28, The Oak and The Ax presents the debut of TAPE HISS, a new performance and interview series. The show begins at 8pm and will feature live music from New Orleans-based artist Lonesome Leash, a performance from burlesque sensation Holly D'Anger, and an interview with one of the founders of Biddeford's new Banded Horn Brewing Company. The show will be taped and edited for future release as episode 1 of an online webseries.
Lonesome Leash (aka Walt McClements) is a touring member and collaborator of Dark Dark Dark and also a member of punk orchestra Why Are We Building Such a Big Ship and New Orleans' Panorama Jazz Band. He released his debut album I Am No Captain in 2012 and the One Foot in Front of the Other EP followed in late 2013. Both are freaky, folk albums that recall Decemberists/Mountain Goats cut with a little gypsy flavor.
Banded Horn was founded in 2013 by Ian McConnellformer headed brewer of Sixpoint in Brooklynand is located in Biddeford's 150-year-old Pepperell Mill. Ian now brews alongside his cousin Ron Graves, and they take pride in their belief that a brewer should be regional, not global, and exemplify the character of its region. The equation is simple: Always local. Always fresh. Always made with love.
Portland's favorite red head! Holly D'anger has hosted and performed in burlesque shows across Maine, most recently presenting Holly D'Anger's Saucy Valentine's Day Burlesque Show at Geno's in Portland. She is also a nationally published pin up model, a member of Stripwrecked burlesque, and lives a double life as an activist crusader and popularly elected public servant.
