Lyra Music Festival 2023
THE LYRA MUSIC FESTIVAL is an outstanding series of summer classical music events based in Beacon, NY and the surrounding Hudson Valley. Each summer Lyra Music brings together world class musicians, outstanding young string players and pianists and an exceptional faculty of professional musicians and educators for concerts, masterclasses and outreach performances.
Join us June 25th - July 8th for Chamber Music Concerts at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY, Masterclass and Benefit Concert at the Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY with featured guest artists Ilmar Gavilan, Violin; Clancy Newman, Cello; and Anna Polonsky, Piano.

Lyra Music Faculty Artists, Jared Blajian, Cello, Tomomi Sato, Piano, Diyi Tang, Piano, and Yezu Woo, Violin in concert.
FACULTY ARTISTS: Jared Blajian, Cello: Armenian-American cellist Jared Blajian has been praised for "speak[ing] through his cello" (Naples News). His accolades include First Prize in the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition and the Career Development Award at the Mondavi Center, and he has appeared in notable halls including Cleveland's Severance Hall, Philadelphia's Verizon Hall, and Carnegie Hall. A devoted chamber musician, he has performed in concert series including El Paso Pro Musica, Northwest Bach Festival, the Strings Music Festival, the Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas, and several others. He has collaborated with the Tesla and Argus string quartets, Zuill Bailey, Jinjoo Cho, and legendary violinists Itzhak Perlman and Donald Weilerstein.
Tomomi Sato, Piano: Japanese pianist Tomomi Sato enjoys a diverse career as a performing artist, curator, and educator. A prizewinner of 2013 Seattle International Piano Competition, she has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as Los Angeles Bach Festival Orchestra, Bellflower Symphony Orchestra, and Concerto Chamber Orchestra. As a solo and collaborative recitalist, she has taken stages throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and Asia.Critically acclaimed for her wide range of repertoire knowledge and genre-crossing versatility on the keyboard, Tomomi's festival credits include Accademia Dino Ciani, Music Academy of the West, Tanglewood Music Center, Centrum Chamber Music Workshop, and SongStudio.
Diyi Tang, Piano: Hailed as "Vibrantly musical, thoughtful" by Cleveland Plain Dealer; A mature interpreter and an artist of intelligence" by Singapore Straits Times. Mr. Tang has made appearances with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, Moscow Symphony, Shanghai Symphony and Orchestra National de Lyon. As a result of winning the Mannes School Concerto Competition, Mr. Tang made his debut at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center with Mannes Orchestra performing Chopin E minor Piano Concerto. Equally active as a soloist, Mr. Tang has given solo recitals at Tivoli Gardens (Denmark), Central Conservatory in Beijing, Shanghai Grand Theatre. Victoria Concert Hall (Singapore). In March 2012, Mr. Tang gave a sold-out recital in Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall in New York.
Yezu Woo, Violin: Praised for her "technical quality, beauty of sound, and above all, the projection of an uncommon musical sensibility" (El Norte, Monterrey), Violinist Yezu Elizabeth Woo made her debut at Carnegie Hall at age 16, where she became the youngest performer to play all 24 of Niccolo Paganini's Caprices for solo violin. Yezu has been invited to perform at the Lincoln Center, United Nations (NY), the Smetana Hall (Prague), Musikverein (Vienna), Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Berlin Philharmonie, and has recorded for EMI Classics, ECM Records, and MOOK Sound. She was the Artistic Director and co-founder of Shattered Glass, a NYC string ensemble, which debuted to great acclaim in 2012.

Ilmar Gailan, Violin: Cuban-American Violinist Ilmar Gavilan, a native of Havana, Cuba has had a remarkable performing career that has taken him all over the world. This fascinating journey ranges from performing for world leaders such as President Obama at the White House and Queen Sofia of Spain at The Royal Palace of Madrid to performing with top artists of diverse styles such as Itzhak Perlman and Chick Corea.Mr. Gavilan is a first prize winner at the Sphinx competition, as well as a recipient of top honors at the Lipinsky-Wieniaswsky and the Henryk Szeryng International violin competitions. He has garnered a Grammy Award for the recording of the Hot House album as a member of the Harlem Quartet.
Clancy Newman, Cello: Cellist Clancy Newman has enjoyed an extraordinarily wide-ranging career, not only as a cellist, but also as a composer, producer, writer, and guest lecturer. He began playing cello at the age of six, and at twelve he received his first significant public recognition when he won a Gold Medal at the Dandenong Youth Festival in Australia, competing against contestants twice his age. In the years that followed, he won numerous other competitions, including the Juilliard School Cello Competition, the Astral Artists National Auditions, and finally the prestigious Naumburg International Competition. He has performed as soloist throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Asia, Canada, and Australia. A recipient of an Avery Fisher career grant, he can often be heard on NPRs Performance Today and has been featured on A&E and PBS. A sought after chamber musician, he is currently a member of the Clarosa piano quartet, has toured as a member of "Musicians from Marlboro", and performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Anna Polonsky, Piano: Anna Polonsky is widely in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared with the Moscow Virtuosi, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the St. Lukes Chamber Ensemble, and many others. Ms. Polonsky has collaborated with the Guarneri, Orion, Daedalus, and Shanghai Quartets, and with such musicians as Mitsuko Uchida, Yo-Yo Ma, David Shifrin, Richard Goode, Emanuel Ax, Arnold Steinhardt, Peter Wiley, and Jaime Laredo. She has performed chamber music at festivals such as Marlboro, Chamber Music Northwest, Seattle, Music@Menlo, Cartagena, Bard, and Caramoor, as well as at Bargemusic in New York City. Ms. Polonsky has given concerts in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Alice Tully Hall, and Carnegie Halls Stern, Weill, and Zankel Halls, and has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Ms. Polonsky is a Steinway Artist.
