Primavera Wine Dinner
The Spring Wine Dinner at Piccino is one of our favourites. I like to think of it as our high-proof distillation of the season's goodness. The markets are starting to pop with flashes of color that have been absent all winter. The restaurant is pulsing with excitement over what new things will be on the menu not to mention all the anticipation for the summer goodies we know are on their way. The bounty of spring comes in a cornucopia of flavours: sugar snap peas, fava beans, young ceci, and all things tender and sweet. Greens abound! Spring onions, green garlic, baby leeks are popping up on restaurant menus all over the city. All the while, chefs circle around the preferred purveyors with hawk-like vigilance for hyper-seasonal items like ramps and morels.
For me, the season and the cuisine speaks to directly to what we do at Piccino. Ingredients are used in dishes with little to no manipulation, so that each voice is heard loud and clear among the ensemble of other notes in the final product. The produce is bright, vibrant, and chock-full of flavour. Our job becomes making sure that we don't cover anything up. Let the food speak for itself.
Keep it simple; less is more.
And that's what we're doing for this dinner straightforward, fresh, and utterly enjoyable. The season calls for a light hand with the wine, so the menu will focus on white and rosé, with only a dash of red to compliment the game bird we'll serve for the main course. Here's what the lineup is looking like so far:
1st Course -- German Riesling
2nd Course -- Friulian White
3nd Course -- Santa Barbara Rosé
4th Course -- Light and Lovely Pinot !
5th Course -- Banyuls
As always, dinner will be a casual affair. Sixteen spots are available at our two tables at the center of the dinning room. Guest will be sat together in order to foster community and conversation. So bring yourself, bring a friend, a group, or whomever. But whatever you do, bring a desire to eat, drink, talk, make friends and make merry.your fellow diners. We hope that you'll take the opportunity to make some new friends.
Details Day: Wednesday, April 16th Time: 7:30pm Price: 95 per person, before tax and gratuity.
