Star bright
With the naked eye, approximately 6,000 stars can be seen in optimal conditions. It's no wonder that these tiny balls of gas have fascinated humans for centuries; been invaluable to prophets, sailors, and ancient civilizations; and served as inspiration to countless poets, composers, and artists alike.
We conclude our 2022-2023 season with "Star bright," a concert bursting with music that delves into the mystical and compelling relationship humans have with the distant heavenly lights. We are thrilled to present a world premiere of "Research" by Carson Cooman, a work commissioned by Ensemble Lyrae, with text by Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin (19101979), Harvard's first female professor and first female chair, who discovered the components of stars. We will feature another newly commissioned work, "Twinkle" by Joshua Hummel. We'll also share music by Morten Lauridsen, Susan LaBarr, Amy Burnon, Claude Debussy, Jason Robert Brown, and many more.
