Brahms: Eine Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), Opus 45
Join us in May for one of the great works of the choral repertoire, Johannes Brahms' "Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), Opus 45. Consisting of seven movements, the Requiem ("Ein deutsches Requiem") is unusual not only because it is sung completely in German, but becausein contrast to the traditional Roman Catholic Requiem Mass, which employs a standardized text in Latinthe text is derived from the German Luther Bible. Brahms undertook the Requiem following the death of his mother in 1865, and after additional work the complete work premiered at the Leipzig Gewandhaus on February 18, 1869. The critical acclaim that it received and performances in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, England and Russia established Brahms as a composer of great significance.
Ryan Tibbetts will conduct the singers, accompanied by a piano four-hands arrangement performed by esteemed pianists Daniel Stipe and Ingrid Keller.
Please plan to attend and celebrate the love of music with your entire family!
