AZTLAN (re)Collexiónes: 2014
Interpreting the beauty and elegance of Xicano/Latino culture through dance, the AZTLAN Dance Company presents (re)Collexiónes, a full-length performance of signature theatrical dance works that marks the companies recent choreographic departures into daring, creative, and culturally relevant movement based story-telling.
The performance will feature choreographic shorts from the productions of: Echoes of the Mind (2007), AZTLAN Barrio Sweets (2001, 2004, 2005), Enchilada Western (2011), and An Authentic Chill (2007). Provocative and moving, each work deconstructs cultural and social narratives of East Austin life-ways and offers imaginative new visions for artists and audiences to share in dance form that is culturally dynamic and contemporary.
"The dance body communicates in multiple and forceful ways that words fail to fully capture Aztlan's dance work empowers audiences with interpretive visual prisms for viewers to engage, investing each in the dance story's outcome," says Aztlan's artistic director Roén Salinas. Over the past forty years the AZTLAN Dance Company has evolved its unique fusion dance style that blends traditions of old into dance that is new.
