Bernardo Bertolucci China 1987 2h 40m
About (Bernardo Bertolucci, China, 1987, 160 min, in English, Mandarin & Japanese with English subtitles)
Not long after Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, Ryuichi Sakamoto reached yet another milestone with his work on Bernardo Bertoluccis legendary epic The Last Emperor. Joined by David Byrne and Cong Su, he composed nine original symphonic works for the film some of the most sumptuous and beautiful works of his career (and in cinema music at large) which won them the 1988 Oscar for Best Original Score and raised Sakamotos name to a new plateau of international fame. His compositions are in perfect harmony with the film a melancholic and haunting suite of melodies that feel timeless, yet also able to reveal hidden depths beneath a brocaded, royal veneer.

Accessibility
Ticketing, concessions, cinemas, restrooms, and our public edit lab are located on Northwest Film Forum's ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible. We have a limited number of assistive listening devices available for programs hosted in our larger theater, Cinema 1. These devices are maintained by the Technical Director, and can be requested at the ticketing and concessions counter.
The Forum does NOT have assistive devices for the visually impaired, and is not (yet) a scent-free venue. Our commitment to increasing access for our audiences is ongoing, and we welcome all public input on the subject!
If you have additional specific questions about accessibility at our venue, please contact our Patron Services Manager at maria@nwfilmforum.org
