Tolan Shaw is a warm, soulful collection of songs showcasing a deep connection to their style and instrumentation that many artists spend a lifetime striving toward an achievement in itself considering it's namesake's mere twenty-four years of age. It is, however, Tolan Shaw's lyrical communication, based in his unique perspective to songwriting, which sets him ahead of his peers:
"The deepest parts of travel are the connections I've made and the relationships I've contributed to. I have my own share of love songs but, because I've been in a committed relationship for eight years, I tend to write far less about heartbreak than most. A lot of my lyrical ideas come from other cultures, bigger questions and more spiritual experiences. My music is firmly based on what I experience and observe in the world."
