Time banks access untapped resources by sharing skills in exchange for volunteer credits, called Time Dollars. One hour = one Time Dollar. The Whittier Time Bank leverages Neighborhood Work Exchange member skills - using Time Dollars - to create community workshops, educational events, direct services, and service opportunities. Anyone can participate in Whittier Time Bank events. Be a volunteer, learn new skills, receive services, and attend events in exchange for Time Dollars or U.S. dollars. Whittier Time Bank programs include the monthly Build-Your-Skills workshop series (workshops include fruit tree grafting, beekeeping, biodiesel, foraging, etc.) and the Neighborhood Work Exchange, a group of volunteers who earn service credits (called Time Dollars) for providing neighborly services. Neighborhood Work Exchange members have organized barn-raisers, moving days, workshops, craft days, and free swaps, in addition to one-on-one exchanges. The time bank also promotes local food reliance including backyard farming projects (Whittier Backyard Farms, Strub Avenue Farm), gardening workshops, food preserving workshops, and the Neighborhood Fruit Picking Project. The time bank also hosts potlucks, outreach presentations, and weekly community exercise classes. Our large events include the Bike-In Movie, the Cardboard and Imagination Day of Play, and the Strub Avenue Block Party. Website: http://whittiertimebank.org/ Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/mn30T
