Event
Bimah to Broadway
Tin Pan Alley was dominated by Jews. It should not be surprising then that many of the tunes that make up the Great American Songbook blossomed from the melodies that these Jewish composers grew up with. For example, George Gershwin's most popular song, "Swanee," and his "It Ain't Necessarily So," both contain well-known synagogue shabbat melodies.
Come sing along to some of your favorites and find out where they came from.
All of the lyrics will be projected on a screen so you may join in. Bring your glasses.
This event is a fund-raiser that underwrites our bringing this program to retirement communities throughout the Bay Area.
