Symphony of the Redwoods Spring Concert
The Symphony the Redwoods Spring concert will feature Schubert's Rosamunde Overture, and Haydn's Cello Concert No. 2 in D Major with soloist Burke Schuchmann. Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 in F minor will close out this final program of the 2008-09 season.
Cellist Burke Schuchmann studied in London, England with William Pleeth for five years, where he made his debut at the age of 19. He also studied for extended periods with Margaret Rowell and Colin Hampton. After his studies in England, he became principal cellist and soloist with the Salzburger Solisten in Austria. He has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, the U.S. and Israel. He has also been principal cellist and soloist with the Sacramento Symphony and the Mendocino Festival Orchestra.
Founded in 1983, the Symphony of the Redwoods has grown to include amateur and professional musicians from Mendocino, Humboldt, Lake and Sonoma Counties and the Bay Area. Conductor Allan Pollack has developed the orchestra into a musical force, performing challenging and interesting pieces as well as the beloved classics.
