BLUETECH
Bluetech: A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenius producers today. Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesisers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders. Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more idm/experimental sounds. Not content to stay at home, Bluetech has toured extensively and performed in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, France, Denmark, Mexico, United States, and Canada. Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman, and his third will be released in 2009. Aleph Zero brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong support and beautiful packaging. Stay tuned for the next chapter! KILOWATTS: (april 17th date only) Jamie Watts is the mind behind KiloWatts and his many different projects and styles. His work embraces the bulk of electronic genres, including breaks, IDM, techno, and downtempo. His fluency in piano is evident throughout his work, as is his penchant for jazzy riffs, intelligent structure, wistful melodies, and an often cheeky take on the current state and history of electronic music as a whole. His album âGround Stateâ is out on Native State Records, home to fellow pioneers Bluetech and Shen. Itâs a collection of sweaty psychedelic downtempo grooves, churning molasses-thick basslines, and undulating synthetic sonorous mandalas. KiloWatts has albums on Artificial Music Machine that are full of visionary dimensions, fusing together a dexterous knowledge of sound synthesis, deep emotional articulation, and solid melodic intuition. Peppered throughout these monumental statements are releases with class labels such as Harmonious Discord, Thoughtless Music, and his own outlet, KiloWatts Music, that celebrate his adept technical expertise, often bringing a whirlwind of mindblowing digital wizardry in the form of glitches and edits. He began making music in the early 90s with DOS-based trackers and releasing them on BBSs through the demoscene. He was a driving force in the foundation of Soulseek Records, a netlabel celebrating independent musicians during a time of heavy backlash from the record industry against filesharing. The label helped show that independent electronic musicians can use filesharing to their advantage by promoting and collaborating with eachother. The label was born among a flurry of netlabels, many which still exist today. An ever-growing list of projects and collaborations exists. Skeetaz, with breakbeat cohort Bil Bless brings hard-hitting digital glitched-out psychedelic funk. His collaboration with singer Peter Van Ewijk is a mystical ride with vocals and guitar, nested atop edgy electronica. With Tanner Ross, an eerie style of dark techno is born under the name Voodeux for Dirtybirdâs techno sublabel Mothership. Fellow Philadelphian MC Amagine delivers consciousness-driven motifs in their digital glitch-hop project called Super Galactic Expansive. Shen: Taken from the arcane Taoist term for 'refined energy' or 'depth', Shen is noah pred's outlet for low-tempo explorations of forward-thinking computer music. Drawing inspiration from the Eastern aesthetics of botanical architecture and geomantic techniques, Shen attempts to evoke organic structures through lush ecologies of synthetic chords, deep textures and minimalist machinations. Honing his craft through sets performed alongside the likes of Monolake, Deadbeat, Shulman, Lusine, Bluetech and Solar Fields, his unique interpretation of the downtempo genre rapidly evolved into a distinctly recognizable sound. Incorporating elements of electro, dub and minimal techno, Shen's fluid funk is aimed equally at the public thrill of the dancefloor and the internal transcendence of headphones. With tracks appearing on the acclaimed 'Leftcoast Liquid Vol. 1', 'Floating Point 3' and various Green Samurai Clan compilations, the debut Shen full-length, 'Outlines', is out now on Native State Records. Welder: Welder, aka Brendan Angelides and âEskmoâ, is a San Francisco based musician and live performer. As Welder, his first release in 2006 was the full length âVines & Streamâ which was released on the SF based label âCybersetâ. It received rave reviews from various indie online mags and publications. 2007 saw the release of his first EP on Bluetechâs imprint âNative Stateâ. In 2008, the acclaimed video for the single âPurple and Orangeâ (directed and edited by Scott Pagano of Neither Field), was met with a great response from fans and newcomers alike. Paganoâs previous work includes videos for BT, Funkstorung, SpeedyJ and Richard Devine among others. Brendanâs works have been featured in URB, DJ Mag, Knowledge Mag and on such shows as BBC Radio1, Rinse FM and Breaks FM. He has performed in London, Bristol, Scotland, Spain, France, into parts of Canada and in numerous major cities across the US. The âChalice Wellâ Ep represents the first release on his own imprint entitled âAncestorâ. It represents a growth of organic sound design and dynamic melody that he has come to be known for. It crosses emotional terrains while working on blending organic and synthetic environments. In helping to achieve this, each track incorporates the use of homemade field recordings that originate from Glastonbury England, northern California, and the Northeast United States respectively. âChalice Wellâ helps to pave the way for releases to come in terms of vibe but also in terms of artistic visions and recording methods.
