Marked Woman (1937), Oregon Sesquicentennial Film Festival
In Marked Woman, Mayo Methot plays a dance hall hostess who is asked to leave her job because she is too old. One of her fellow workers ( Bette Davis) stands up for her, defying the underworld boss who runs the nightclub where both women work. Humphrey Bogart plays the sympathetic DA. Mayo Methot first appeared onstage in Portland, beginning her career here when she was four years old. After a successful career on Broadway during the 1920's, she went to Hollywood, a career trajectory she shared with co-star Humphrey Bogart. In this film Bogart leaves his days as a character actor behind. From here on out, he was a movie star. Bogart and Methot married soon after working together on this film. Marked Woman will be shown in 35mm.
