Thirst Fursday Beer School - March 6 - Off Flavors
March 6, 2014 - Off Flavors Night
We strive to serve you the best beers from the cleanest taps possible. Unfortunately not everyone's standards are as high as ours. Draft line infections and spoilage sometimes ruin the beer drinker's experience, and they always leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.
In order to become a better beer drinker, you need to know what bad beer tastes like. We will be presenting you with the same materials and flavor-spiked beers that you would receive in professional brewery or beer service training.
We will be tasting the following off-flavors in beer and talking about why they might occur:
Acetaldehyde (green apple) Isoamyl acetate (band aid/chemical) Diacetyl (butter) DMS (cooked corn/vegetable) Trans-2nonenal (cardboard) Infected (acidic) Meaty/soy (autolyzed yeast) Skunky (lightstruck)
We will also go over basic draft line maintenance, the importance of clean glassware, and other beer quality assurance steps.
