The Spook Who Sat By The Door
In this 1973 Black Militancy classic, Dan Freeman (Lawrence Cook) is enlisted by the CIA and trained as a spy as a token illustration of the organizations commitment to integration. Upon completion of the rigorous espionage training, he is given the position of Top Secret Reproduction Center Sections Chief (copy boy). After five dutiful years, Freeman returns home and establishes a militant guerrilla cell. Suppressed for being too controversial, the film (and its Herbie Hancock score) remained widely unavailable until its re-release in 2004. Based on the landmark Sam Greenlee novel.
