The Forty Fours
The Forty Fours A favorite band of club and festival crowds across North America, the Forty Fours are a Los Angeles-based blues-roots-rock band that literally exploded on the Blues scene with their highly contagious sound, a mix of contemporary blues and traditional blues-and-R&B that goes back to storied greats like Howlin' Wolf, Albert Collins, and Muddy Waters. The band's lineup consists of Johnny Main guitar and vocals, Tex Nakamura on harmonica and drummer J. R. Lozano playing a vintage Ludwig kit. Their first release, Boogie Disease (2010) was self-produced on Rip Cat Records with the help of guitar great Kid Ramos (The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Mannish Boys). It reached No.12 on the national Living Blues radio charts and No.2 on BB King Bluesville Sirius/XM satellite radio. Critical praise and industry recognition from the blues community soon followed. American Blues News awarded the band Best Blues Band of 2011 and Blues Underground Network named their album Best Debut Album. Touring non-stop since 2010, they've garnered a whole new generation of first-time young blues- roots fans as well as older ones who recognize the talents of these four musicians. In 2012, the band released their much anticipated second album, Americana with Ramos producing and playing guitar. The mixing chair is filled by the legendary David Z (Buddy Guy, Etta James, John Mayall). Ramos says of his experience with the Forty Fours, "They play like their life depends on it and you can quote me." And American Blues News writes, "They're one of the hardest working, hardest playing blues outfits anywhere."
