Eriko Daimo
Marimba One is sponsoring a concert by worldclass Japanese musician Eriko Daimo, a driving force in today's generation of marimbists. With numerous prizes to her name and concert tours around the world, Eriko Daimo is known for her dazzling virtuosity and captivating charisma. Marimbas are large percussion instruments similar to a xylophone, but with a keyboard crafted out of Honduras Rosewood, known as "the wood that sings." Based in Arcata, Marimba One is considered the maker of the world's finest marimbas and has been the choice of Eriko Daimo for many years. "I feel that Marimba Ones are alive. As I play it, I feel the tones improving and the instrument itself seems to create a variety of gorgeous, deep, warm, glittering and profound sounds. I can feel my emotion flowing through the instrument and bursting forth into the beautiful, warm wooden sounds of my favorite music." Come hear Eriko Daimo play Bach, Debussy, Ryuichi Sakamoto and more on the marimba at the Arcata Playhouse, Tuesday March 4 at 8pm. Tickets are $12 / $10. Available at Wildberries Market, Wildwood Music, brownpapertickets.com and by calling 822-1575
