Living in poverty demands extraordinary creativity to survive. Social Innovation designers know this, but few have the firsthand experience of Heather Fleming. Growing up in the Navajo Nation, Fleming channeled her frustration at the poverty she saw into a career. Founder and CEO of Catapult design, Fleming applies design thinking to finding solutions for low-income and impoverished communities worldwide.

Catapult Design is a non-profit design firm that develops and delivers technology and service solutions to low-income and underserved communities worldwide. Catapult Design provides engineering and implementation support for emerging markets, and their clients include companies and organizations working to provide technology solutions  such as rural electrification, water purification and transport, food security, and health  for impoverished communities.

Prior to founding Catapult Design, Heather was an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University and a Senior Lecturer at California College of the Arts. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader as well as a Pop!Tech Social Innovation Fellow.

This lecture is sponsored by globalenvision.org, Mercy Corps' blog about market driven solutions to poverty.
