Music Editing Basics
April 27 from 1-3pm

You've found the PERFECT song for an act, but the only thing preventing you from moving forward is that the song is not quite...perfect. Our resident music expert Ida Tapper will teach you the following music editing basics using the free software program Audacity:

put two songs together
make the introduction last longer
add a fade in or fade out
end the song earlier
make the song louder/softer
take out a verse
add in a sound effect
save the file in a different format

All of this can be done using basic (and FREE) music editing software. In this 2-hour workshop, Ida Tapper will lead students through a hands-on lesson in how to do all of these edits using the free software program Audacity. It will be assumed that students are beginners at music editing, so instructions will be accessible to all learners!

Materials Needed: Each student should bring a laptop and flash drive with music files (MP3s or WAV format) to the workshop for hands-on training. If desired, a laptop (with Audacity preinstalled) can be rented during the workshop for $10 (due in cash at the workshop), but bring a flash drive with your music, if desired. There are a limited number of laptops available; please email Ida ahead of time if you would like to reserve a laptop: idatapper1@gmail.com. Students are welcome to attend the workshop even if they do not have a laptop, if they would like to learn by watching and taking notes.

Prior to the Workshop: If bringing a laptop, it is highly recommended students download and install Audacity prior to the workshop from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/.  Use this link to Install Audacity for Windows or Mac. In order to save any Audacity files as an MP3, students also need to download and install Learning About Mp3 Encoding ("LAME") at http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/files/latest/download?source=files. The LAME download works for all Windows and Mac operating systems.

Cancellation Policies:
If your class is cancelled by the instructor, your payment will be refunded in full as soon as possible. If you've pre-paid a class or deposit and need to cancel 10 days or more before the class, you will be refunded 50% of your deposit. No refunds will be made in the 9 days before a class. There are no refunds or makeup classes for absences.
