LOOK AWAY by Jerome Kilty
Set in The Bellevue Hospital for Insane Persons, Batavia, Illinois during the last night of Mary Lincoln's stay there on June 14, 1875. Ten years after President Lincoln's assassination and the night before the sanity hearing which was to judge Mrs. Lincoln "returned to reason." Look Away is the compelling story of Mrs. Lincoln's last night of residence, imagining she is once more at home in the White House, and that her dressmaker is with her. Elizabeth Keckley, a former slave and Mrs. Lincoln's dressmaker, who wrote a book about her experiences; is the companion and a pillar of strength and wisdom to her irascible and often difficult friend, who rants about the mistreatment accorded her by a penurious Senate, and by her one surviving son, who lobbied for her commitment.
LOOK AWAY was written by Jerome Kilty, based on MARY TODD LINCOLN: HER LIFE AND LETTERS by Justin G. Turner and Linda Levitt Turner.
Mary Michell is Mary Todd Lincoln and Jacqueline Jones is Elizabeth Keckley.
A wine and light hors d'oeuvres reception will take place during intermission.
LOOK AWAY is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
