Wythe Cinema Presents NY-Premiere of "Good Vibrations"
In celebration of its iTunes release, Irish Film New York, The Irish Film Board, and Under The Milky Way are delighted to screen the BAFTA-nominated movie Good Vibrations at Wythe Hotel Cinema on Friday, March 14th.
The winner of audience awards at the Galway Film Fleadh and the Belfast Film Festival, as well as an Irish Film and Television Award, Good Vibrations received rapturous praise upon its release. Mark Kermode, writing in The Guardian, admitted that he cried twice during this "nostalgic gem," his favorite film of the year so far. U2's Bono commented, "Richard Dormer's performance is a transcendent, anarchic, amazing joy. If you love music, movies or being alive, you'll love Good Vibrations!" And Oscar-winning director Ron Howard called it, "inspiring, funny, [with] great music and character moments."
Directed by Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn, Good Vibrations tells the story of Terri Hooley (Richard Dormer), a radical, rebel and music lover in war-torn 1970s Belfast. As his friends take sides and take up arms, Terri opens a record shop on the most bombed half-mile in Europe and calls it Good Vibrations. Through it, he discovers a voice of resistance in the city's nascent underground punk scene.

Irish Film New York aims to help Irish films and filmmakers find a market in the United States by fostering partnerships between Irish and US-based film institutes. It brings the very best in contemporary Irish cinema to New York in an annual three-day festival each October. It also connects producers and directors and holds many film screenings, industry panel discussions, filmmaker receptions, and Q&A sessions with filmmakers throughout the year.
