The Breathing Performer with Christopher Sivertsen
Saturday and Sunday, May 17th and 18th 10:00am-5:00pm Tuition fee: $250 [early bird $175] Deposit: $75 Where: Schkapf 6567 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90038 The Breathing Performer is an approach to training that is both passionate and playful. Devised by Christopher Sivertsen over his years of performing and teaching with Poland's acclaimed Song of the Goat Theatre, the training is a means to release performers from particular habits that hinder them while simultaneously giving each participant specific tools that will extend their performance capabilities. By deepening the participant's connection with the essential elements of rhythm and breath, the workshop aims to enhance, and awaken, individual creativity as well as the psychophysical means by which ensemble can be generated. The Breathing Performer draws on numerous sources including folklore, traditional song, hip-hop, jazz, poetic texts and personal stories. All of the work is designed to develop and deepen an understanding of the self, allowing for greater risks to be taken by the performer, and to engage as much of the performer as possible in the creation of character and story. Focusing on breath, rhythm and coordination participants will leave this workshop with a greater understanding of how ensemble theatre and personal creativity truly come from a pulse within. Participants should be ready to move vigorously and joyfully for the majority of the workshop. Please wear appropriate clothing and be willing to work barefoot.
