The Calla Lillies Are In Bloom Again: Katharine Hepburn on Film
In honor of National Women's Month, Film Historian Philip Harwood returns to the Sky Café, with a discussion on the career of Katharine Hepburn an American actress of film, stage, and television. Known for her headstrong independence and spirited personality, Hepburn was a leading lady in Hollywood for more than 60 years. She appeared in a range of genres, from screwball comedy to literary drama, and received four Academy Awards for Best Actressa record for any performer. We will see clips from some of her most outstanding roles: Alice Adams, Stage Door, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, Adam's Rib, Summertime, On Golden Pond, and many others.
Philip Harwood has had a life-long passion for the arts, especially film. He is currently an Adjunct Lecturer in the Hutton House Lectures at LIU: C.W. Post, and teaches at the 92nd Street Y, and the JCC In Manhattan. He was Coordinator for Lifelong Learning at Queens College, where he also programmed the annual Summer Film Festival. He is a published author: his essay, Jack Benny In Hollywood, appears in the anthology, Well! Reflections On The Life And Career of Jack Benny, published by Bear Manor Media.
