WI Sustainable Business Council Spring Workshop and Awards
Potawatomi Casino
Milwaukee, WI
Share this event:

In 1970, Earth Day was established to raise the visibility of environmental protection efforts. In 2014, the WI Sustainable Business Council and Cool Choices, are raising the visibility of business' sustainability accomplishments by introducing the Earth Day Business Sustainability Awards.

These awards will be presented over lunch at the WI Sustainable Business Council spring workshop at the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee, featuring the WI Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC).

The WI Sustainable Business Council spring workshop will be co-hosted by Cool Choices and will showcase a new employee benefits option developed by the Clinton Climate Initiative, and piloted by WECC with Johnson Controls.  The Home Energy Affordability Loan program (HEAL) is an energy-based employee benefits program designed to improve energy performance in people's homes. By enlisting employers to offer the HEAL program to qualifying employees, the program is able to make a large-scale and rapid impact in energy usage, GHG emissions and employment opportunities.

How Does It Work: The HEAL process begins by identifying energy saving opportunities at the corporate facility level. From there, HEAL helps facilitate a commercial retrofit, with the industry dedicating a portion of the resultant savings to a loan fund accessible to its employees. After tapping the fund to identify and finance residential energy efficiency improvements in their home, the employee then retires the debt through payroll deductions, with a "pay as you save" amortization schedule that ties payments to the savings realized through lower utility bills. This effectively increases the participant's disposable income over the life of the improvements.

WECC piloted the program with Johnson Controls, and there will be presentations by representatives from the Clinton Climate Initiative, Johnson Controls and WECC.
