Lowly Spects, Tyson Motsenbocker, Ryan Webster and Dominik Michalzik at COACH HOUSE, San Juan Capistrano
Tyson Motsenbocker would be the first person to tell you that he is a lyricist first and a musician second, but the true talent in the San Diego based singer songwriter is his ability to marry the two. Spinning stories of love and loss, beauty and wonder and often, man's turmoiled relationship with his creator above a soundtrack that feels as though it is saying the same things - Motsenbocker's two EP's "Until it Lands" and "Rivers and Roads" only suggest at what is to come for this young artist.

The Lowly Spects are the antithesis of their surroundings - of the place they were born and raised among the tall palms and sprawling freeways of Orange County, California. Principal songwriter and singer, Ethan Hulse feels more Montana valley than Laguna riviera - constructing rugged compositions that run deep with romance and introspection. Joined by drummer Tyler Johnson and guitarist Trevor Kelso - the end result is near perfect. Folk music that is in every way American: painstakingly assembled and timeless. They are not to be missed.

Dominik Michalzik has a song called "Lies." Why does it feel, then, like he is a member of the ever-shrinking group of songwriters who are telling the truth? With his debut album he is appearing at the Coach House for his debut show. It's a night of firsts for Michalzik - but with a rich, deep voice and flawless guitar playing, it's sure as hell not to feel like it.

Ryan Webster just released a 10 song album - described as "...Retro-funky-rock expression of existential angst with reprieves found in moments of Americana and folk." This description does pretty well. In fewer words, Webster is a lot of fun. He'll bring the most energy to the stage on March 7th, not at the expense of some truly expert songwriting.
