Relay Dance Collective Season II: "Beginnings"
"Relay Dance Collective emitted prettiness, humor, and melodrama ... Its classic jazz, ballet, and modern roots made this troupe stand out." - Seattle Dances
Now in its second season, Relay Dance Collective presents a sophisticated evening of new and repertory works inspired by our roots, where we come from as a company. From our heritage as dancers growing up in Seattle, RDC revisits Mary Kay Bisignano Vadino's contemporary marvel: "Surviving the Undertow" as well as "Momento," a jazzy romp through the music of George Gershwin by SuzAnne Duckworth, co-founder of Spectrum Dance Theater. Leading dance graduate and Chamber Dance Company performer from the University of Washington, Cheryl Delostrinos, sets a new piece on RDC featuring three couples. Several of the RDC co-directors will present new work, including an exciting exploration of partnering in a duet by Tess Wendel and a lush, sweeping tribute to the challenges and power of love called "The First" by Austin Sexton. Gabrielle Nomura brings actors, dancers and live music together with her piece "Farewell Shikata ga nai," made possible by The Japanese American Citizens League and Seattle's Office of Arts & Culture.
Featuring a cast of 30 performers, RDC continues its reputation for bringing innovation through tradition, and a mix of the best dance traditions told in new ways.
"Beginnings" will feature a guest appearance by 3rd Shift Dance and Seattle Kokon Taiko.
IMPORTANT: The performance is located at Theatre4 on the Seattle Center campus (fourth/top floor of The Armory building, formerly called The Center House). ________________________________________________________
