A Visual History of the Puget Sound Tech Industry
The Puget Sound is home to thousands of thriving technology com.panies in a variety of sectors including Software, Aerospace, Digital Media, Medical Devices, Telecommunications, Webservices, and more.
In a joint project with Virginia Tech and Seattle University, the Washington Technology Industry Association (.WTIA) has created a poster which illustrates a portion of the industry by focusing on the movement of founders from six key institutions along with venture capitalists, supporting institutions, and many of the larger technology businesses located in the region.
Data was gathered through an online survey of technology firms in 2007-8 along with additional firms identified from various listing such as the Puget Sound Business Journal's 2008 Book of Lists, the Seattle Startup 2.0 list, the Xconomy gaming cluster list, and primary research. This project is part of a larger Virginia Tech project that examines the emergence of high-tech regions.
West Sound Technology Association (WSTA) and Kitsap Economic Development Alliance (KEDA) will co-host a special event featuring CEO Ken Myer, who will discuss the above project and the resulting map. Attendees will receive a free copy.
