EMILY ROEBLING: The Woman Who Saved the Brooklyn Bridge- A Special Event for Women's History Month
In tribute to Women's History Month this one hour dramatic and multimedia presentation focuses on the remarkable contribution of Emily Roebling to the building of the Brooklyn Bridge.
In her day, Emily Roebling was known as the woman who completed the Brooklyn Bridge, yet very few people today know who she was. We will share the remarkable true story of Emily Roebling, who surprised 19th Century establishment by sharing engineering duties when her husband, Washington Roebkling, became incapacitated and could not visit the condtruction site for the last 11 years of the project
This video and live-action dramatic presentation, held in celebration of Women's History Month, profiles a woman ahead of her time. Emily Roebling was a true pioneer who championed the abilities of women to excel in sciences and in industry, all while supporting the strength of her the Roebling family's mission to construct the Brooklyn Bridge When it opened, the Brooklyn Bridge was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world. What is more remarkable than the bridge itself is the story of its construction.
Following personal tragedies that leave the future of the bridge in jeopardy, Emily Roebling steps in, taking over many aspects of construction and wins over the bureaucracy insuring the Roebling name is forever attached to the bridge.
Emily Roebling: The Woman Who Saved the Brooklyn Bridge Features live-action performances and a multi-media experience, EMILY ROEBLING: The Woman Who Saved the Brooklyn Bridge, will be presented Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Theater at the New Jersey State Museum, West State Street, Trenton, NJ.
The Theater at the NJ State Museum will host two Roebling shows in 2014. Showtime is 2:00 PM, tickets are free with Museum admission. Reservations are not required for this general admission show. Tickets are first-come-first-served, the best seats will fill up first. Appropriate for all ages. Approx. 60 minutes.
