Jason Webley with Sxip Shirey in Portland - March 20th
Accordion cult troubadour Jason Webley is joining forces with sonic mad scientist Sxip Shirey in support of their new collaborative EP Days With You. Each night they will perform sets of their solo work, and then take the stage together to play material from the new recording.
The show is free for Reed students with ID, and a limited number of tickets are being sold to the public.
Seattle native Jason Webley is best known for his energetic accordion-driven music and his unique ability to involve the audience in his shows. He has been described by the Seattle Times as "one of SeattleÂs most talented musicians, a singer-songwriter with a rare gift for crafting timeless songs." In addition to the squeezebox, Webley accompanies himself on guitar, piano, or even just a plastic vodka bottle filled with change. With an unrelenting touring schedule, Webley has amassed a sizeable cult following everywhere from Australia to Siberia. He has shared the stage with the likes of The Avett Brothers and Regina Spektor, and recently released his fifth full-length studio album, The Cost of Living.
Sxip Shirey is a circus composer, resophonic guitarist, and an enthusiast of such instruments as the industrial flute, the mutant harmonica and the obnoxiophone. Shirey has composed music for theater, film, circuses and puppet shows. He is the former Music Director of the Bindlestiff Family Circus, and has penned original music for New York's Daredevil Opera Company. A curator of human marvels, Shirey hosts and produces the variety show, SxipÂs Hour of Charm. He has recorded several albums and toured across the world both solo and with the acclaimed quartet, Luminescent Orchestrii. In 2008, Shirey was invited to perform at the TED Conference in Los Angeles.
