Joe Stevens (of Coyote Grace): Concert & Live Webcast
California based singer/songwriter, guitar and banjoman, Joe Stevens is a third-generation professional musician in a long line of restless westward moving souls. Joe is one third of Coyote Grace, the Alt-Americana trio founded in Seattle's Pike's Place Market. Coyote Grace began as a busking nomadic duo with Ingrid Elizabeth on upright bass, ukulele, and cajon. They were joined by Michael Connolly (owner of Seattle's Empty Sea Studios) on mandolin, fiddle, dobro, accordion, and more, together filling stages with a sound seemingly far too expansive for just three musicians.
Coyote Grace has five independently released albums on their own Mile After Mile Music, and have toured extensively with the Indigo Girls, Melissa Ferrick, and Girlyman, and have had the privilege of sharing stages with contemporaries such as Chris Pureka and legends such as Cris Williamson and Lowen and Navarro.
Joe's music rides the edge of the first wave of trans performers who broke through into the public consciousness. From what began as a small scattered handful of artists from a highly marginalized subculture, a movement was born that has inspired and educated folks the world over. From his roots as an awkward kid with a debilitating stutter, through dark years of alcohol and drug addiction, Joe's music touches on themes at once specific and ubiquitous, portraying the human condition distilled where one person's story is truly everyone's story. Joe performs and gives workshops on songwriting and queer/trans issues at colleges and universities and is a social justice activist for underdogs of all stripes, committed to honoring their vital contributions to the greater collective evolution.
Joe is currently recording a solo album, set for release sometime in 2014.
