The Good Life: with Winifred Gallagher, author of 'Rapt: Attention and the Focused Life'
Set in Tom Douglas' delightful Palace Ballroom, The Good Life events are highlighted by an onstage conversation and interview with the author, led by Warren Etheredge of The Warren Report, followed by a lively audience question and answer period. Appetizers and a copy of the featured book are included for each attendee. A cash bar is available, and the evening ends with a Theo Chocolate confection.
Several years ago when Gallagher discovered she had cancer, she decided to do something bold about it, she decided not to pay attention to it, but instead to focus on her life and the things in it that made her happy. While it didn't work all the time, she found that she got through her illness surprisingly well and she set out to further explore our understanding of attention: What is attention, exactly? Can we train our focus? How does your unique, characteristic way of focusing affect who you are? In her latest book, she shares the importance of focus in one's daily life on what we focus (work, relationships, creativity, spirituality, etc) and how much can make a huge impact on quality of life. In today's world of Blackberries, twitter, sound bites, and an ever-increasing incidence of ADD in our children, we need to be reminded that, your life is the creation of what you focus on and what you don't. This amazing new series, The Good Life, has been created by Kim Ricketts/Book Events and The Warren Report, and is supported by sponsorship from Bastyr University, Tom Douglas Restaurants, Theo Chocolate, Conscious Choice/Seattle and Lush Life Floral.
