Sticks and Stones This is a true story about a fourteen year old girl named Emma who is bullied by her classmates; classmates whom she has grown up with who pretend to be her friends. Emma has a crush on a girl named Alice. Even though Alice is not a bully, she is a bystander. Teachers and adults are present during these heartless incidents, but no one takes charge to intervene. Although her big sister, Sam, does what she can to help, it is to no avail. It is unclear whether Emma is bullied based on her sexuality or simply by the way she dresses; either way it starts to dull the light that once beamed from her heart.
Above the 101 Recent Graduate Ramona who struggling to start her life and career as an architect takes a job as nanny to Gabi, a young bookish girl. The two struggle to connect until one day Ramona shows Gabi her secret to escaping the world. The overpass above the 101 freeway where they can both float above traffic and feel free.
Knot Annabelle, a girl raised and trained for martial arts in a dojo by her single father, has developed an interest for piano. She takes piano electives in school and wants to go to a piano competition. However, her dojo challenge is on the same day of the piano competition. She has to choose between what her father wants for her and what she wants for herself.
Reflection Day Reflection Day' depicts the special relationship between an elderly African-American Alzheimer's patient, Ms. Johnson, and her young, male attendant, Andre, in a senior home. Ms. Johnson goes in and out of reality and regret as she recalls her marriage to a civil rights activist -- until she decides that she has to go vote on what she thinks is Election Day. Andre, still reeling from a break-up with his girlfriend, stages a mock voting station in the senior home, helping Ms. Johnson achieve the dignity and peace that have eluded her.
In Frame 'In Frame' is a story told through the lens of 16-year-old Shelby's film camera. She finds herself distanced from her mother with nowhere to turn but her photography. Shelby discovers an unlikely friend in an elderly man, Frank, who ceaselessly writes letters to his estranged daughter. Frank shows Shelby the support and tenderness she rarely receives, and helps her to realize that she has the ability to become much closer to her mother.
In The Deep Jodi's mother passed away five years ago, and since then, her father has pretty well stopped living himself. Arriving unannounced on his doorstep one day, with shattering news of her own, Jodi is determined to make the most of the time they have left.
