Shadow of Doubt
In 2010 Sue Neill-Fraser was jailed 26 years for killing her partner of 18 years radiation physicist Bob Chappell. He was last seen alive on January 26, 2009. On the day Bob disappeared he was working on the couple's new 54' yacht, Four Winds, on the Derwent River. Sue had returned to shore in the couple's dinghy Bob decided to keep working and stay on board overnight. Early the next morning the yacht was found sabotaged and sinking The prosecution's case was simple: Sue returned to the yacht in the afternoon, or maybe in the evening, struck Bob from behind with a wrench, then pushed Bob's body out into the Derwent River with a fire extinguisher attached to ensure it sank. There were no witnesses, no forensic evidence linking her to the crime, no confession and Bob's body has never been found. The police focused on one suspect - Sue Neill-Fraser. Why was a jury convinced beyond reasonable doubt? Sue's family tries to 'prove' her innocence. The more they investigate the more they uncover mistakes, lies and misrepresentation. Set in Hobart, this documentary follows one of the most intriguing and alarming cases in recent Australian history.
