The Last Safari
New York-based photojournalist Elizabeth L. Gilbert began her career fresh out of college and moved to Africa to cover news for publications such as Life, Time, and The New York Times. As a freelance agent working for for one of the largest photo agencies in the world, Gilbert covered the genocide in Rwanda, civil wars in Somalia, the Sudan, Burundi, and Zaire. Now, a decade later, The Last Safari follows Gilbert as she sets out on an unforgettable journey through remote Africa to reconnect with the tribes-people she documented a decade earlier. With a crew from Nairobi and a filmmaker from Brooklyn, Gilbert brings cinema slide shows to remote villages, and learns some hard lessons not only about a rapidly changing continent, but her own perception of reality. This documentary takes us along on the expedition of one woman as she confronts the personal, environmental and societal dilemmas existing in an ever-changing world- an adventure rarely if ever, captured on film.
