DAYTIME PROGRAM: CHINATOWN RESTAURANT WALKING TOUR AND DIM SUM LUNCH AT CHINATOWN BRASSERIE
Date: Friday, April 3rd, from 10:45 am to 2:15 pm
(Note: The tour will begin promptly at 11 am, so be sure to arrive by 10:45.)
Cost: $45 for Students, $50 for Members, $55 for Nonmembers. This event is limited to 25 participants.
Location:
Starting: Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) in the lobby of 70 Mulberry Street (at Bayard Street). The museum is in the former Public School 23 building diagonal from Columbus Park. (Take the N, R, Q, W, J, M, Z, or 6 train to Canal Street or the M9, M15, or M103 bus.)
Ending: Chinatown Brasserie at 380 Lafayette Street, between Great Jones and East 4th Streets. (Both the museum and restaurant are in lower Manhattan.)
Description:
We'll begin the day with MOCA's ÂFrom Coffeehouses to Banquet Halls walking tour. From the MOCA Web site: "Through present-day and historical food-related sites, the tour will trace the evolution of Chinese American eateries and food ways in Chinatown, and highlight the ways in which these eateries have both reflected and shaped this community."
After the walking tour, we'll enjoy hot tea and a bounteous lunch at the heralded and gorgeous Chinatown Brasserie  recognized by New York Magazine as one of the best spots for dim sum in the city. The meal will include a dim sum course (featuring roast pork buns, lotus root and pork pastry rolls, crunchy vegetable and peanut dumplings, duck spring rolls, shrimp dumplings, curried chicken dumplings, turnip cake with ham and XO sauce, and shrimp and snow pea dumplings); middle noodle course; and dessert of custard bao and fresh fruit. (If you'd like to drink something other than tea, you may purchase wine, soda, or one of the restaurant's signature cocktails.)
Important Note:
The walking tour will begin and end at the Museum, and will cover roughly two miles. From there, we'll walk an additional mile or so to the restaurant. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes! Additional Details:
