Attendees will learn how to manage and mitigate sub consultant risk and to recognize and defuse backdoor warranties. They will also learn how to generate protective project documents while avoiding copyright plagiarism claims.

Michael Murtaugh Mike performed his undergraduate work at the University of Cincinnati (BA, with honors, 1970), and received his law degree from the UCLA School of Law (JD, 1973) where he represented the school in the National Moot Court Competition and was elected to the Order of the Barristers.
His practice focuses on counseling and representing design professionals concerning liability and business matters, employment counseling and litigation, and general civil litigation.
He has received Martindale Hubbell's highest "av" rating for ethics and competence; and he frequently lectures to legal and professional organizations including, the Orange County Bar Association where he has served on the faculty of the College of Trial Advocacy, the AIA OC (e.g., "Law 101," and "Contracts 801," "A/E Intellectual Property Primer," "Surviving Difficult Times," and "Ownership Transition"), SEAOSC ("The Art of Contract Negotiation") and ACEC (e.g., "Drainage Law" and "Litigationwise Project Management").
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel and as Chairman of the Board of Easter Seals of Southern California; and he is an honorary member of the Orange County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Michelle Generaux Michelle received her undergraduate degree from the university of Notre Dame (BA, 1993), and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law (JD, Cum Laude 1996). She began her law career in Minnesota (1996), and has been practicing law in California since 2001.
Her practice is focused on the representation of privately held businesses, with an emphasis on architectural and engineering firms. She has extensive experience in entity selection and formation, contract drafting and negotiation, ownership transitions and mergers and acquisitions. She also practices in the areas of probate and trust administration, and litigates various business claims and disputes.
She is an active member of the American and Orange County Bar Associations as well as a member of the board of directors of the Notre Dame Club of Orange County and the founder of the Notre Dame Professionals of Orange County.
Ken Wittman Ken Wittman has been serving design professionals as an insurance broker for more than 25 years, initially as majority owner and President of Crowell Insurance Agency and for the past 17 years as a Senior Vice President of Dealey, Renton & Associates in Santa Ana, CA.
Prior to becoming an insurance broker, Ken served in various insurance management positions including President of San Francisco Reinsurance Company, a Firemans' Fund Company and as Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer of DPIC Companies in Monterey, CA. He is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society; the Professional Liability Agents Network; is an affiliate member of the AIAOC; and for more than 20 years, a Director of The Architecture Foundation of Orange County. In addition to supporting Dealey Renton's clients with risk management advice and education, Ken has made numerous loss prevention education and risk management presentations to various local and national industry groups including ACEC, AIA, PLAN, PLUS & CGEA.
