World Premieres of music by Elena Ruehr and David Garner
The program will feature three world premieres: *rising star MIT composer, Elena Ruehr's "Winter Solstice Songs," to texts by Berkeley poet Marcia Falk *SF Conservatory composer David Garner's "Such Innocent Words," with texts by New York poet and Holocaust survivor Yala Korwin *2 new songs by Garner for his cycle "Phoenix" *A new arrangement for the JMPP by Ruth Lomon, *Music by Hungarian and Czech Jewish composers Miklos Rozsa, Sandor Vandor, and Vitezslava Kapralova.
The Jewish Music & Poetry Project consists of award-winning soprano Nanette McGuinness, Van Cliburn competitor pianist Dale Tsang-Hall, 2012 Voices of Music Young Artist Bach Competition winner, cellist Adaiha MacAdam-Somer and 2013 American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Music nominee and the JMPP's collaborative composer, David Garner.
