Future of Health: Christine Gleason: Tales from the NICU
As debate rages over the birth and the fate of the California octuplets, the babies and the professionals caring for them are focused instead on mere survival. Christine Gleason, chief of neonatology at Seattle Children's Hospital and UW professor of pediatrics, has seen firsthand the difficulties that premature babies face. In her moving memoir Almost Home: Stories of Hope and the Human Spirit in the Neonatal ICU, Gleason recounts remarkable stories of triumph and heartache. Taken together, the stories celebrate the miracles of modern medicine while also acknowledging its failings and marveling at the strength and resilience of the human body and spirit. Thomas Hansen, CEO of Seattle Childrens Hospital, will interview Gleason. Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store.
