Event
Gary Snyder at Seattle Arts & Lectures
Gary Snyder is one of the best known and most revered poets of his generation. An early member of the Beat movement, Gary is a poet/essayist of history, wilderness, and wild mind; a meditator on memory. He is also noted for his environmental activism and contributions to Buddhist theory and practice. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Turtle Island in 1975 and is the 2008 Lilly Poetry Prize winner.
On Wednesday, May 27, he will be the guest of Seattle Arts and Lectures and the North Cascades Institute in the 2500-seat S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium at Benaroya Hall.
Village Books, as a Bookstore Sponsor of SAL and a longtime friend and supporter of NCI, has arranged for a limited block of tickets for what will certainly be a sold-out event. We will take a bus from Bellingham to Seattle, arriving in time for folks to have a leisurely dinner on their own before going to the evening's event. The bus will await us as we exit the event and folks will be treated to wine and cheese on the return trip to Bellingham. Tickets for the event, which includes roundtrip transportation, entry into the Gary Snyder event and wine and cheese on the return trip to Bellingham, are $50 each. You can avoid the hassle and expense of driving and parking, hear one of the greatest American poets, enjoy the company of fellow poetry lovers and relax with a glass of wine on the way home. This will sell out early so don't delay.
