Apparition
ALTERNATIVA is San Francisco-based dancer Kathleen Hermesdorf with musician Albert Mathias. Since 1998, the duo have been creating performances that deeply integrate sound and motion within a process that is vigorously intertwined and viscerally transmitted. ALTERNATIVA brings its "...deeply original, woozy, brainy " music and badass dancing to SPACE with their duet apparition and a world premiere commission of new choreography featuring ten New England dance artists.
apparition is a duet for Hermesdorf and Mathias and is dance of, with, for and by ghosts, in possession and transmission. Live music and video generate an ongoing reconstruction of body, time and space.
The world premiere commission will be developed in a two week residency at Bates College from March 8-21. It features an cast of ten amazing Maine and New England-based professional dancers including Rachel Boggia, Carol Dilley, Charlotte Griffin, Amanda Hamp, Charlaine Katsuyoshi, Annie Kloppenberg, Meredith Lyons, Betsy Miller, Audrey Ouelette, and Jessamyn Schmidt. The project is supported by the Bates College Faculty Development Fund.
