BOOM: Bechtler Ensemble
The inspiration for the Carolina Composers Collective commission came from the colorful wall painting by Sol LeWitt,  Wall Drawing #995 Color Geometric Form at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. The vibrant colors, red, yellow, purple, grass green and sky blue offers a bold palette for a composer to be inspired by. The colors within the geometric forms create a three dimensional effect on the eyes just as the music will recreate for our ears. The Bechtler Ensemble is excited to present five new works by the Carolina Composers, Lewis, Parks, Zubow, Bove and Jandali for string quartet and two guitars and cello. On guitar is Mary Akerman and Ben Geller as the violist.

BIO
Tanja Bechtler is the artistic director of the Bechtler Ensemble Music Series. Tanja was awarded the Woman of Achievement of 2015 by the General Federation of Womens Clubs, an international volunteer service organization. The award recognizes outstanding women for their significant contributions to the state of North Carolina. Her ensemble along with poet Larry Sorkin was given the prestigious Irene Blair Honeycutt Legacy Award in April of 2022, for their contribution to the literary community in Charlotte.

Tanja, a native of Switzerland, was introduced to the cello at the age of nine, through the Orff Educational system. She earned scholarships to the North Carolina School of the Arts for her Bachelor Degree and also to the Manhattan School of Music for her Masters Degree. For twelve years, Tanja was an orchestral player with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra where she also participated in their educational residencies throughout the Charlotte- Mecklenburg school system.

Her love for new music inspired her to create the Carolina Composers Collective, initially known as the Composers Forum, which features new music inspired by the art at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, that can be heard on their CD Reflections on the Firebird. She has performed professionally at Lincoln Center, the Spoleto Festival, the Charleston Symphony, the Cayuga Chamber Players, the Akron Symphony and numerous recital series including the Caramoor Festival.

Currently Mrs. Bechtler is the cello instructor at Central Piedmont Community College and also holds a private teaching studio.

Bechtler dedicates all of her music to the HORA Trance Sport youth movement, which is a science-based training program designed to develop physical and intellectual inner strength, endurance, and the ability to remain calm during any activity.(https://practicehora.us/)
