Sichuan Underground Potluck @ Crow Hill Supper Club
On Saturday, February 22 at 7:30pm, ten chefs will combine forces to create one of the most unique Sichuan Chinese experiences anywhere. Crow Hill Supper Club is extremely proud to host this one-of-a-kind, collaborative dinner featuring classic and modern Sichuan dishes from a combination of professional chefs, cookbook authors, food writers and experienced home cooks.
The Chefs:
Born in Shanghai and raised in New Mexico, Chichi Wang took her degree in philosophy but decided that writing about food would be more fun than writing about Plato. In past lives, she has been a food writer and a recipe developer. She is currently at work on her first book.
Noah Arenstein is originally from Ohio, but spent time in the South before moving to New York City. He is a practicing lawyer, freelance writer, and co-founder and managing editor of Real Cheap Eats, a site dedicated to finding the best dishes under $10 throughout NYC. In 2013, Noah founded the "Global Jewish Sandwich" stand Scharf & Zoyer, which debuted at Smorgasburg and was named a "Best New Vendor" by Time Out NY.
Max Falkowitz is the New York Editor of Serious Eats, where he covers food and restaurants across the five boroughs and explores the technique and science of making ice cream.
Cathy Erway is the author of The Art of Eating In: How I Learned to Stop Spending and Love the Stove. She writes the blog,Not Eating Out In New York, and hosts the podcast Eat Your Words on Heritage Radio Network. She's currently working on a cookbook on Taiwanese food.
Josh Kaplan has spent 7 years in the trenches as a cook and chef in Brooklyn and San Francisco. Owner of Dassara ramen in Carroll gardens. Lover of tongue in all dialects.
Kian Lam Kho is the founder of Redcook.net, a blog focused on authentic, Chinese home cooking.
Margaret Chen was born in Hong Kong and lives in New York City. She received her culinary degree at the Institute of Culinary Education, ICE, in New York City. Immediately after graduation, Margaret interned under Chef Anita Lo, at her critically acclaimed fine dining restaurant Annisa in NYC. Margaret founded Savory Sweet Living to share her passion for cooking and eating. Jackie Gordon is an award-winning singing chef, event producer and professional speaker who has worn nearly every hat in the restaurant and catering business. As a singing chef, she produces "eatertainment" shows where attendees learn about and taste foods paired with music and humorous story telling. Her latest production, Chocabaret: where a chocolate tasting meets a cabaret show was successfully produced in New York in October, 2013.
Her first one-woman show, "Black Pearls & Strange Fruit: the history of Black American women singers and their struggle for racial dignity" was awarded best show at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and later went on to sold-out performances in the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts and the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
