The America Play
Torn Space Theater will host a special preseason event in collaboration with Just Buffalo Literary Center and Ujima Theatre Company. For one night only at the Adam Mickiewicz Dramatic Circle we will present a staged reading of Suzan-Lori Parks' The America Play. It is a play that looks at how history is constructed over time, and how it affects our present. In it the Foundling Father, a grave digger turned Abraham Lincoln impersonator, makes his living charging people a penny to simulate the president's assassination. His quest for greatness, to leave a mark in the "great hole of history", is left incomplete, picked up years later by his wife and son who attempt to find his legacy amid the rubble. This reading provides an insightful look at the dramatic ingenuity and thematic potency of Parks' work.
Members of Just Buffalo Literary Center, Babel and Torn Space can receive a discount at door.
