FEN & TOP GIRLS
Lumina's 2014 Ensemble delves into Caryl Churchill's comparison pieces, FEN and TOP GIRLS. One of theatre's most respected, and courageous writers, Churhill's FEN explores the lives of a working class women whose lives are as challenging as the land they farm while TOP GIRLS invites us to enjoy an imaginary dinner party with some of history's most prominent women from reality and fiction.
The women of the FEN are tied to family and their small village, while the TOP GIRLS abandon the idea of family ties to fight their way to the top of their professions. The settings contrast as well - rural farm, hundreds of miles from the city and a lavish dinner party with silver, crystal and free flowing wine.
TOP GIRLS Marlene says, "anyone can do anything if they've got what it takes.", but do the women of the FEN have what it takes to break out of their tired lives, and do the TOP GIRLS have what it takes to make it in a man's world?
