Washington Sinfonietta - "Youth and Maturity"
Washington, D.C.'s premiere chamber orchestra presents the next concert in its 2013-14 season on Saturday, February 22. The concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the National City Christian Church, 5 Thomas Circle NW, Washington, D.C.
Pianist Alex Peh, who has been praised for his "buoyancy and finesse," will perform Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Washington Sinfonietta under the direction of Maestro Joel Lazar. In addition, the orchestra will play Mendelssohn's thrilling concert overture, Fingal's Cave, and Haydn's Symphony No. 101, The Clock. The theme "Youth and Maturity" highlights the contrast between the Mendelssohn pieces (both written in the composer's early 20s) and the Haydn symphony (written in the composer's early 60s).
The concert will be followed by a reception.
Tickets for the performance are $20 ($15 for college students and seniors 62+; children age 18 and under admitted free). Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
