Herschel Sizemore: Mandolin in B - Film Screening & Live Concert
Bluegrass legend Herschel Sizemore and his wife Joyce were both diagnosed with cancer on the same day in the fall of 2011. On the evening of February 19th, 2012 bluegrass stars came out for a special benefit to honor one of their own. The benefit concert in Roanoke, Virginia, and the music community that supported the event, captures the spirit of the man being feted.
The film features interviews and performances by Del McCoury & the Dixie Pals, David Grisman, Chris Thile, Doyle Lawson, The Seldom Scene, Alan Bibey, Chris Stuart, The Travelers, Stacey Grubbs Band, Kevin Baucom & Bandwagon, Ronnie Reno & many more.
Director Rick Bowman will be on hand to introduce the film and answer any questions.
The evening starts out with a set of live bluegrass by The Parlour Hoppers Seattle's own Ethan Lawton (mandolin), Rob Adesso (guitar), Mary Maas (fiddle), and Michael Thomas Connolly (upright bass). All mainstays of Seattle's acoustic music scene, these players bring touring-level instrumentals and tight vocal harmonies to this hometown show.
